Graduate and Postgraduate Programs

The partners of the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research offer various short-term training and study programs in the field of sustainable development – both independent and cooperative programs. Here you find a selection of graduate and postgraduate programmes.

The University of Bonn and the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) are partners in the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research. In a joint Spring School we invite African Germany-Alumni from any field of study and Alumni of the Managing Global Governance Academy (MGG) of the DIE to come to Bonn, Germany.

The Alumni Spring School aims at fostering partnerships and networks by overcoming regional and disciplinary borders. Knowledge transfer among participants from developing and emerging powers at the science-policy-interface is a main part of this concept.

The Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy brings together participants from rising powers of the South and from Europe to participate in a dialogue and advanced training programme. Its overarching purpose is to support the development of future ‘change-makers’ who can address global challenges and dedicate themselves to transformational change.

Development cooperation is changing: Long gone is the practice of transferring knowledge, financial resources and skilled people from the global North to the South in a one-way fashion. Today, we are in need of mutual learning and common strategies. Junior and experienced professionals have to meet these requirements.

Each year, the nine-month Postgraduate Training Programme of the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) prepares up to 18 German and European university graduates for the challenging tasks and responsibilities of international development cooperation.

The international Master’s programme is aimed at students who wish to deal with social security systems and who are also interested in intercultural exchange. The on-campus and online phases provide students with the opportunity to develop an international network and connect with practitioners in the field of social protection.

The MBA program is designed for international students with professional experience who wish to develop their management skills. The program offers academic, interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange and deals with the management of corporate social responsibility and non-governmental organisations (CSR & NGO). Students of the MBA program will learn how to promote sustainability within a non-governmental organisation or a CSR department.

The UNFCCC–UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme offers young people from developing countries a unique opportunity to start their career at the interface between international climate policy development and research. Fellowships may last from six months to two years, and Fellows will be selected based on their skills and backgrounds vis-à-vis the needs of UNU and UNFCCC.

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security” is jointly offered by UNU-EHS and the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn as an international degree programme with a research-oriented profile.

The two-year programme educates students in an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary manner on how to investigate and manage various resources related to environmental hazards by implementing science-based principles and methodologies to disaster risk management.
